I Love to Win + I Love Creativity = Remodelando la Casa

I want to show you my newest object d' art.

 

Do you love it as much as I do? And best of all I won it! Winning's always fun but it's even more fun when it's something beautiful to look at.

I won this over at Remodelando la Casa.   As soon as I saw it I knew where I was going to put it.  We have a large built in T.V. cabinet that separates the foyer from the living room.  I already had a couple of vintage globes on top and knew this piece would be perfect up there with them. 

I found Cristina's blog not long ago. Lucky for her readers and even luckier for me, she had recently been to the flea market.  She found not 1 but 2 of  these cool globes.  One was used and she loved the patina.  The other was still in the box and now it's resides at my house!  Yippee for me!!! 

Let me introduce you to Cristina. She's full of creative ideas and she likes to share them, like all us bloggers do. Christina stays busy updating here plain builder's house into the home with a traditional-modern feel, as she puts it. Best of all she creates all this style with the word budget in mind. She's also considerate enough to provide lots of tutorials so we can get our creative groove on too.  Just look at this easy to make wreath she came up with.  You'll be surprised by what she made it from.

She really had done everything from crafting to pulling out the big tools, and building her own custom hood range and adding elegant crown molding to her kitchen cabinets.  A must see.  Just click here or on any of the pictures to view.

Just look at this last minute art she created.  So smart and easy - we all can do it!  Oh' all the possibilities.....

Not So Impossible After All

Well I teased you yesterday.  You do remember the teaser, the ugly before picture below.  I found this 3 panel screen thrown away after being good and beaten up so no one would want to rescue it.  Well people you didn't do a good enough job with your hammer.  Yep, I saw good bones (frame, that is).

The front above and the back below.  Poor thing all that art work ruined.

So  what do you get when you add that to this fabric (old twin bed skirt)?

Not too shabby for trash, if I do say so myself.

I did go buy the wooden trim.  I didn't want to lose the arched detail on the top but had to cover all the staples.  I decided to by some simple trim molding and cut to length and then stained to match the existing wood stain.  I already had the perfect stain, so no money there.  Yippee!

I knew I was going to have to find some braid or fabric trim to cover the staples on the top and bottom.  I dreaded spending the money for it.  Yes, I can be cheap or better yet thrifty.  One day I was in Walmart where they were clearing out there fabric department and low and behold they had the exact color I was planning to buy on sale for 75% off! I bought what they had left and there wasn't much of anything left in the dept.  It was a meant to be thing.  Don't you just love it when things all come together like that?  It was a perfect match.

 I know you're all disappointed, that there's no beautiful vignette but decorating under our circumstances is almost impossible.  This did match MIL room perfect and if you look behind the screen you would see her oxygen equipment that sits there unused. She refuses.  Oh' but don't look at the back of the screen, you'll still see hammer holes.

Final Tally:

• Screen =  Free
• Stain = Free, already had
• Fabric = Free upcycled bed skirt I already had
• Trim molding = apprx. $25.00
• Fabric Trim = apprx. $3.00

TOTAL = $28.00

Better Late Than Never - Geez I Hope That's True

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mothers day, whether you were the Mother or celebrated a Mother or both.  It was beautiful weather here and I really enjoyed getting outside.  But oh' am I sore and tired.  Ty called and I'm always so happy to hear from him.  Oh' how I'd like to see him and Christal and my sweet grandchildren.  I couldn't believe it when Ty said it was snowing in NY.  We had a little coolness move in so I went out side and could actually stand it more than 10 mins.  It's been close to the 90's here.  Which is only nice if you're at the beach.  


Back to my better late than never.  I've been so bad about posting lately.  But I received a prize I won last week and as excited as I get I haven't shown ya'll yet.  I'm always so grateful when I win.  I hate anyone to think I don't appreciate it.  So I hope Samantha over at Scrapmaster's Paradise will forgive me.  She had a huge giveaway.  She said she was Spring Cleaning.  Anyway she actually had about 25 giveaways, give or take one or two.  I don't know how she could possibly afford to ship to so many winners but lucky for me she did.  I won give away #23.  I love to win anything that I can use to craft with.  There was a photo album, stickers, ribbons and cards.  Boy will I have fun.  Samantha has a wonder site and makes the most beautiful cards.  She's a Stampin' UP Demonstrator.  Just click on her name or her site and stop in and see all her pretty work.  Thank you again Samantha!

I have always wanted to see Egypt but after this long hot summer a nice fall trip to any mountain area sounds good.

I would plan a widely pampered night. I would take a private jet to a luxurious spa where I would be served a gourmet meal, followed by a walk on the beach, and then the full spa treatment with the most relaxing massage given in my private suite where I could go right to sleep afterwards.

4. What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate and coke. I can never have enough of either.

There isn't one, my attention span is way to short. I'm always flipping through mags or the paper, then it's on to the next thing.

We'll hit the road for a day trip to one of the historical (with lots of shopping) areas nearby such as: St. Augustine, Fl, Ameila Island, Fl. or Jekyll Island or St. Simons Island, Ga.

10. Best food you've ever had while on vacation.

That's easy - it's good old fashioned Southern country or bar-b-que that you get by riding the back roads on vacation. Less chain restaurants the better.
