Sometimes You Just Have To Walk Away

I'm back after being on a one month hiatus.  One whole month of being unplugged from my blog.  Summer was just so nice, and after blogging for 5 years straight, I thought a break was just what I needed, and well deserved if I say so myself.

I can't say this was my best Friday though.  Heading home from downtown today our car lost complete power in the middle of a torrential downpour.  We were heading to the top of the bridge and only 40 minutes before the start of the 5pm rush hour.  That's not the worst of it. You couldn't see 20 feet in front of you and our flashers weren't even working. Ugghh... Called the emergency road service and waited and waited.  Called back and they dispatched them to the wrong bridge.

All I can say is Thank the Lord, his grace was with us and kept us protected.  Nothing scarier than people flying up on you and barely missing you on a bridge.

So what exactly have I been doing for a month?

For starters I gave up running.  I really, really miss it too.  I got bursitis in my knee.  This picture was before it got really big.  I changed my workout routine getting rid of squats and anything else that would over work the knee and replaced them with others.  I'm happy to say that this week I went back to walking (and just a little lite jogging).

I made a new ironing board cover and continued to iron clothes every week.  Neil ripped said new ironing board cover, which got him the stink eye from me.

Neil has been playing Mr. Green Jeans (a throwback to our Captain Kangaroo days) and is having fun nurturing his tomato plants.

While he's tending tomatoes I'm filling window boxes.  I spray painted the old black trays aqua and added lime coleus. Much brighter and cheerier now.

My first sunflowers ever.  They were a little sad looking but they still made me smile.  Next year I will shop for better seeds and plant them earlier, in big bunches.  I'm already excited about it.

Loved my pretty fuchsia zinnias.   I'll be planting more of theses too.

The last couple of months it seemed to rain a lot.  Sadly beach days were few and far between.  We're hoping to catch a few more rays before the warm days are gone.

Sometimes it's just good to walk away.  You get a fresh perspective and you can find the joy in things again.  It's good to be back.  It's time to change my schedule around. That's what's nice about a change of season, it's like you get a chance to make a fresh start.

What's your favorite part about fall?  Mine is the crisp air & the many colors.  I feel energized by it all.

It's fall y'all...

Then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil.

  1. OMG! Your poor knee, it looks so painful. Glad it's getting better ♥ So thankful all was safe on that bridge!! Very scary indeed! My last van used to lose all electrical in the rain. Such fun. I hear ya about 'getting unplugged'. I feel I'm chasing my tail some days, heck most days. Everything seems like a chore. Between canning (from my garden and free apples and pears from a friend!), pruning, listing, listing, listing (need the money :/ ), fighting with the kids SSI and Medical Insurances (screw CoveredCA, but that's another story) even blogging, and then housework - I need a beach day too! ;) Glad you got some downtime and got a much deserved break. Love the color you painted your flower boxes! Aqua and turquoise are my new fav color crushes! Your Sunflowers look gorgeous! I had only one puny one show up this year. They usually reseed themselves profusely. I think it's because I didn't water last winter and we had very little rain. Darn drought, I've lost so many plants, even old established ones. Not sure if my Lilacs will make it, they are looking dead. I sneak out in the dark and water ;) I was thinking of planting some Zinnias next year, your pretty fuchsia has made my mind up. Haven't had Zinnia's for a few years. Tell Neil he's doing a perfect impression of Mr. Green Jeans!! Sending hugs and love and praying your knee recovers completely - but don't over do it! xoxo

    1. I looked pretty weird when it got even bigger Deb. lol Our SUV has been a nightmare for the last year. We were hoping to hold out till next April to get something new, but that's not really an option anymore. Oh how I like not having a car payment but oh how I hate going off in fear of not making it back home. Thank you for the hugs, love & prayers. I'm heading over to see you now. OX's

    2. This is my reply to your reply on my blog, geesh! LOL It needs to post to both blogs when you hit reply!
I'm holding my breath with my van too. It's getting up there and there is no way I could afford a car payment. But It's the end of the year so you should get a good deal on 2014 models. Always go in on the last day of the month, they want to make there quotas and it really helps. That's how we bought what we have now. Ok Ok I'll shut up so you can read my reply to your reply to my reply to your reply to my rep l you...whatever! ;)

Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one that had no idea about any of this! LOL I have thought of the same thing. I reply here and no one knows. It should post here and on whomever your replying to's post. How the heck do you say that? I know to's isn't a word, oh well, you know what I mean!! That would have been great to take a little trip to see the Fall colors and window shopping. Window shopping used to be a big deal when I was a kid..what ever happened? My kids just don't enjoy it unless they're buying! Different generation I guess :/ I've been dying to go for a day tri[p somewhere too. But believe me Fall is no where is sight. We'd have to stay in the car with the AC running! LOL XOXOXO

  2. Wow that must have been so so scary on that bridge, it is horrible enough to be in a storm on a regular road. But your flowers are lovely and hope you are feeling better.

  3. Hi Tracy,
I would have been so terrified on that bridge! You know I have come to the same decision about blogging...we must have started about the same time....
After the holidays I think I am done...I have moved forward to other things in my life and sitting here for hours isn't one of them....I have had such a good time up until about a year or so ago....then little by little it was more work than fun. Time to move on. But I love to blog during the holidays, so one more last hurrah!

    1. It was pretty frightening Sandy. I know what you mean about blogging. Sometimes I just feel lost. It's been almost paralyzing just trying to write a word. You're such a wonderful and talented blogger. I never get to visit blogs like I used to. There are going to be a lot of very sad people if you stop blogging. I wish you the best what ever you decide to do friend. Big hugs....T

  4. What a scary thing. I hate storms and I'm not even on a bridge during the storm. I enjoy reading your blogs. Keep pressing on! :)
