Have I ever mentioned how much I love music? It's always been a big part of my life. Listening that is, God didn't deem it necessary to bless me the talent part when my turn came.
Well Micheal Buble is one of my very favorite crooners! Yes, he's a crooner. I got my love of this style music from my dad. And how can you not love a melodic voice like his. So when One2One asked if I would like to review his latest release "To Be Loved", I unabashedly jumped at the chance. I'd hate to see how I'd actually act in Michael's presence.
On this album Micheal works his way through the American songbook. I don't know anyone else who can do justice to these classics like he can. As Michael says himself "I want to take you on a wonderful journey about love—all different kinds of love. The album swings big time: it rocks, it’s soulful, it’s happy, sometimes a little sad. It’s romantic, it’s yummy, and it’s heartfelt."
To Be Loved, which is available now, finds the Grammy winner covering the biggest artist like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, the Jackson 5, the Bee Gees, Van Morrison and more. What's really different about this album, is that Micheal has added four original songs that he has co-written to the mix of golden standards.
This is a really important time in Michael's life and it shows in these new songs. Micheal is about to become a first-time dad. He sounds like a man in love with life.
"I wrote Close Your Eyes about my wife and about the power of all the women in my life—my sisters, my mom, my grandma and all women in general. Let’s face it, where would we be without them? I Got It Easy, another original, is basically a song where I count my blessings and is a reminder to me and everyone to appreciate all the good parts of life. I’m a very lucky guy and I never want to forget it."
Okay time for the collective sigh "Awww".
Michael also performs a few duets with other artist too. Including one with Reese Witherspoon. Anyone remember that amazing performance in Walk The Line? The girl can sing.
Here's the To Be Loved track listing:
1. "You Make Me Feel So Young"
2. "It's a Beautiful Day"
3. "To Love Somebody"
4. "Who's Lovin You"
5. "Something Stupid" (featuring Reese Witherspoon)
6. "Come Dance with Me"
7. "Close Your Eyes"
8. "After All" (featuring Bryan Adams)
9. "Have I Told You Lately That I Love You" (with Naturally 7)
10. "To Be Loved"
11. "You've Got a Friend in Me"
12. "Nevertheless (I'm in Love with You)" (featuring The Puppini Sisters)
13. "I Got It Easy"
14. "Young at Heart"
Just wait till you hear "Close Your Eyes". This is definitely a new favorite of mine! Micheal's always had the Midas touch when choosing his songs, it seems only natural that he would want to move in the direction of creating his own. I predict we will see even more creative endeavors from Michael in the future.
To Be Love is available now and you can find it at iTunes and Amazon.
