The Reason For The Season In Pink

When my neighbors passed away a couple of years ago the family through out pretty much everything and this was one of those items.  It looks prettier in the photo then in real life. It's just a cheap print on cardboard but I liked the frame so I knew I would use it.
Loving to upcycle, I had several calendars with pretty illustrations that I saved for future projects.  Actually the whole calendar was a whopping 74 cents at Hobby Lobby.  I picked up several different artist calendars after season.  I adore this one for Christmas which is such a sweet reminder of the reason for the season.
I simply rubbed an old wax candle on the areas that I wanted highlighted in the original gold on the frame.  Then painted with some acrylic pink and white paint mixed to the right shade of pink.
I love the details of the gold peeking through.  And just in case I want to use that picture again, I glued the calendar to the back, so all I have to do is flip it over.
Not bad for a total of 6 cents.  Remember I paid .74 for the calendar and I still have 11 pages left.
I love my new sweet picture of the Holy family.

I've linked up to the parties below. I  hope you'll click on the pictures and check out all the great creations.

Old Calendar, Old Frame = New Art

Nadine, my MIL likes to read.  She doesn't read books anymore but she loves reading words on your shirt, all the little ads in the corner of the TV screen, and everything else.  So I thought, I'd add a little readable art to her room and I thought you might like a peek before I take it over there.
Cheap Inexpensive and easy, that's my motto.  And what's better than free?  Nothing!!!  I just grabbed and old frame not being used (got tons of those) and sprayed it with a couple of light coats of color and then a top sealer.  I bought a bunch of art calendars at Hobby Lobby a few years ago at 90% off.  Woo-Hoo, that's number 2 on my list of favorite prices.  There are so many pretty calendars with great pictures just perfect for framing and crafting.  I thought this would be the obvious choice for Mom.

Add a some cut up lace doilies, old ribbon, buttons, flowers and whatever else you have on hand and that's it.  You now have a new piece of art.
I hope it inspires you to make something new.  There's always something that can use updating and the land fill will be grateful.

Have fun Chickies.....Tracy :)
